NASA Plans To Built A Moon-Orbiting Spaceport As The Next Step Towards Sending Humans To Mars

NASA is about to take the next step towards fulfilling its dream of sending human to the surface of the red planet.

The agency plans to built a spaceport which would be placed in lunar orbit to facilitate future deep space missions. It will act as a gateway to the lunar surface and other destinations inside the solar system such as Mars.

It also offers a true deep space environment for scientific researches, mainly for the study of problems that the human body might encounter during long duration deep space missions. "This gateway will give us the experience required to push farther into the solar system", says NASA scientists.

However, making such a habitat has many challenges, one among them is that returning to Earth in case of an emergency would take weeks. NASA is presently working on new plans that could possibly cut this time required to a few days rather than weeks.

"Initial preparations for the gateway will start with the first integrated mission of the Space …

If Water Is Essential For Life, Then These Two Moons Have Lots Of It

Water is an essential component for life. It is found almost everywhere on this planet from the ice caps to the oceans.

Water has a unique ability that not only makes it essential for survival, but also makes life possible. Wherever water flows, you can be almost sure to find life. We use exactly the same strategy while searching for life beyond Earth.

Water is essential for organisms here on Earth simply because it is mostly found as a liquid. Being a universal solvent, it plays a very important role in the splitting of DNA molecules and also in the overall functioning of the bodies of all organisms. Not only can water dissolve nearly anything, but it is also one of the few compounds that can exist as solid, liquid and gas within a relatively narrow range of temperature.

Liquid water's property as a solvent, in which salts and organic compounds such as amino acids and sugars readily dissolve is due to its dipole molecular structure. The oxygen atoms in a water molecule acquire a…

Five Proposals That Will Decide Humanity's Future On The Red Planet

5. Inspirational Mars Foundation: Manned Mars Flyby Mission (2013)

In 27 February 2013, Dennis Tito, the founder Inspirational Mars Foundation, an American non-profit organization announced their plans to produce space hardware, launch vehicles services and select a two-person married couple as crew and attempt to raise funding necessary to launch a mission to Mars in 2018.

Dennis Tito said he was going to fund the foundation with $100 million for the first years of operation.

However, later Dennis Tito indicated that the plan was impossible without significant investment from NASA and the use of NASA spacecrafts. NASA, however, was unwilling to get into a partnership with the foundation.

Finally, in by late 2015 their website became defunct but it is archived by the Internet Archive [Wikipedia]. The foundation's future plans are still unclear.

Life On Titan Would Be The Proof For The Existance of Multiple Habitable Zones Around Other Stars

NOTE: This post was originally published on our parent site, futurestica.com (http://futurestica.com/blog/2017/04/01/titan-habitablezone/)

Titan is undoubtedly one of the most interesting places in our solar system. It is the only moon in the solar system to have an atmosphere.

Discovered by the Dutch astronomer Christiaan Huygens in the 17th century and further studies by pioneers of astronomy like Josep Comas i Sola and Gerard Kuiper, this moon is a hydrocarbon mega-factory, producing millions of tones of methane, ethane, acetylene and other wide range of compounds from sources that are still unknown to us.

While the Cassini spacecraft approached this mysterious moon on 2 December 2004, it relayed back data showing that Titan was in fact a world so similar to Earth. It was found to have oceans, seas, lakes and rivers of liquid hydrocarbons and even clouds, which hinted that it often rained on Titan.

Right from then, many speculations about methane super-bugs swimming in the liquid l…

This Is What Makes Titan A World So Similar To Earth But In A Very Strange Way

NOTE: This post was originally published on our parent site, futurestica.com (http://futurestica.com/blog/2017/03/24/titan-earth-similarity/)

Titan is the largest moon of Saturn. It is also the only moon in the solar system to have an atmosphere. Even though Earth and Titan are separated by a distance of about 1.4 billion kilometers, these two worlds share many common characteristics:

1. Earth has liquid oceans, so do Titan.
2. Earth has flowing rivers and stagnant lakes, Titan have them too.
3. It rains on Earth and it does rain on Titan.

Oceans, rivers, lakes and rain. These are all things previously taught as to be exclusive to Earth. However, the exploration of some of the alien worlds here inside our solar system has proved that it is not always the case. There are many worlds out there having all these features. One such world is Titan (we discuss in detail about all these places on our new book: The Worlds Unknown click here to view). Titan has oceans, rivers and lakes of flowi…
